The Artist
Conflict:
The story consists of a conflict between the evolution of cinema. From the silent movies to the talkies. The actors from the silent movies couldn't accept the fact that people wanted the talkies. Producers were in difficulties cause people were looking forward for new faces and actors from the silent movies weren't good actors for the talkies. The actor ended up from being rich and confident to loosing all his faith and confidence in himself and poor. His pride dragged him more to his helpless side and took him quite a while that he needed the help of the women that he loved.
Harmony:
The fact that there's no other sound than music its very harmonic. The black and white film gives more harmonic feeling cause of the use of different tones in colours, its very relaxing to the eyes.
Costumes:
The costumes were a study of the period of the late 1920's to the early 1930's. In the coral dress one can see a perfect example of a 1920's day dress. The layering of the jacket, the low waist line cut placed down to the hip, pleats in the skirt and the skirt just above the knee. The front two dresses on the right are the perfect designs in textile from art deco prints. Repetition and simplification of lines. The use of fur was added to create richness and elegance to the dress.
The poster:
In the poster again we see mainly the two colours used in the film, Black and White. When one first sees the poster one draws the attention to the faces of the artists. One will immediately see the harmony in their faces, this was created with the amount of light placed on the face. After looking at their faces the colour red draws your attention. This colour red creates creates in the viewers eyes, with this conflict of colour it creates curiousity and draws your eyes to the title of the film. This poster brings you directly to the two main elements in the poster. The actors love and passion and the title.
